The Arcana Exploration Fanzine

An unofficial fanzine centered around the characters of The Arcana on an exploration.

This fanzine is not an official Nix Hydra or The Arcana product or project.

    About

The Arcana Travels fanzine is the temporary placeholder name. This fanzine will dive into the characters of the Arcana universe traveling and exploring. This will be focused only on the canonical areas of the game and no real-life areas.

Should things go as plan, our goal is to show the beauty of the canonical regions in The Arcana, places we are and are not so familiar with. Whether this be a trip to the market in Vesuvia, the homelands of the Devoraks in Nevivon, or the palace at the Sea of Persephia.

    What is a zine?
A zine, short for “fanzine,” is an unofficial collection of drawings, fanfiction, and sometimes recipes or cosplays. The term combines “fandom” or “fan” and “magazine,” meaning that a fanzine is a magazine (or art book) for a specific niche.

What is the theme of this project?
This zine is focused on the characters of The Arcana traveling. This will include only canonical regions from the game and not real-life areas.

    What are the zine specs?
This will be decided after the interest check concludes.

Will this zine be for-profit or for-charity?
Due to Nix Hydra’s fair use page, this zine will be for-charity. The charity will be decided after the interest check concludes.

Will this zine be physical or digital?
We are aiming for a full physical zine, but this may change depending on the interest check.

    How will contributors be compensated?
At the bare minimum, contributors are guaranteed a free digital copy of the zine. If this goes physical, then we aim to provide all contributors a full free bundle.

What is the rating of this zine?
Due to minors being allowed, including the head mod, this zine will be SFW and PG-13.

    Will you accept traditional artworks?
Yes! As long as your piece is properly scanned with a resolution minimum of 300dpi. You will need to show this capability in your portfolio should you apply as a contributor.

May I draw the characters I’m assigned in different outfits?
Yes, as long as they are still recognizable. My goal is to keep all pieces in the time period The Arcana is showing, thus I’d like original outfits to fit the period and aesthetics of the game.

    Are ships allowed?
No, unless it is someone’s MC with one of the main 6. However, we don’t want to feature too many MCs due to this being focused on the canonical characters and canonical regions.

    Who is allowed to apply?
Anyone that is or over the age of 16. If you are going to turn 16 around the contributor or moderator results date, then an exception may be made.

Will you be looking for interns?
    Maybe!

Am I allowed to apply for more than one position?
Yes! For mods, you may also get more than one role. For example, you may get layout and graphics, or finance and shipping, or art and merch.
However, for contributors, you will only get one position.

Will everyone get an email despite the results?
Yes! Everyone will get an email, whether rejected or accepted.

Can I ask for critique on my portfolio if I’m rejected?
Yes, feel free to reply and ask us. That does not mean you’ll necessarily get a reply, though.

May I stream or post my piece?
You may only stream or post your piece in the early works. You cannot post or stream full parts of your piece past the sketch phase.

    I’m not good at backgrounds . . . Can I still apply?
Yes, but if you are not skilled at backgrounds, it is best to apply as a merch artist. With the nature of this zine being centered around sights and exploration, we are looking for a strong skill in backgrounds and scenery.

    Will there be international shipping?
If we go physical, then that is our goal!

    There's a war going on . . . Is a travel zine appropriate?
I've considered this, definitely, but I decided to go ahead with this zine because it's not dealing with real-world regions. The only regions and exploring going to be shown is in canon areas within The Arcana. Also, traveling doesn't necessarily mean overseas or in dangerous areas! A trip to the market is traveling as well. :)
